In her works, Gitte Helle's outset is a slice of the Danish cultural history that we are all familiar with - The iconic porcelain figure. With humour and subtlety, she deconstructs the porcelain figures and transforms them into new surprising expressions. They are transformed into figurines. She lifts the classic characters out of their familiar environment and turns upside down what we think we see. The talk is based on the exhibition Figurines which is exhibited at Hjorths Fabrik until the end of the year.
The container jewel has been a pioneer in upcycling for more than 30 years. Gitte Helle has created figurines, sculptures, lamps and jewellery from materials that others have thrown out or lost interest in. She has gained great recognition for this and has been exhibited in Paris, Berlin and several other destinations abroad as well as at Louisiana, Arken and other locales in Denmark. Today Containerjuvelen is located in Svaneke, Bornholm.
