Welcome to European Ceramic Context 2024
European Ceramic Context 2024 is the ninth triennial for contemporary European glass and ceramics on Bornholm. This year, the triennial showcases innovative and experimental ceramics from 64 artists representing 28 European countries. The triennial addresses global awareness and raises the question: How do European ceramic practices work with sustainability?
As the planet grapples with unprecedented climate change, we all bear the responsibility of contributing to the green transition. The numerous sustainable projects featured in European Ceramic Context 2024 narrate a compelling story of a professional field that handles materials, techniques, and expressions with respect, humility, and innovation. The transformative approach to resources is a beacon of hope, promising a future where ceramics not only adhere to their aesthetic, functional, or ideological principles but also challenge, expand, and reinterpret the traditional view.
The two exhibitions of the triennial are curated by a European group of experts. These exhibitions, held at Hjorths Fabrik in Rønne and the Bornholms Centre for Crafts - Grønbechs Gård in Hasle, are a testament to the high level of curation and the diversity of European ceramic art. With European Ceramic Context 2024, we aim to provide a glimpse into a future where ceramic communities coexist harmoniously with the planet's needs.
Enjoy!
