The exhibition "A Tribute to the Logbook" provides insight into the intricate process of firing a wood-fired kiln. A ceramic artist often develops an intimate relationship with their kiln. While minimal tools might suffice during shaping, without the kiln, the process comes to a halt.

For a ceramist who has chosen a wood-fired kiln, the kiln is more than merely a tool; it significantly contributes to the aesthetic character of the finished pieces. The logbook serves to guide and document the ceramist’s continual journey of development.

The eight participating ceramists explain: “Each of us has our own reasons for choosing wood firing. We've even selected distinctive kiln designs and developed unique methods for achieving the desired firing temperature. This dedication is evident in our final works, visible in their color and texture. It can be a long journey involving much trial and error to formulate the ideal firing schedule, including precise temperature rises and specific atmospheric conditions at defined times during the firing. This meticulous effort shapes the aesthetic quality of our work. Therefore, the kiln and the logbook - or collected experiences - become inseparable parts of the finished work.”
